Peter Dudley’s Essex Senior League preview

Non-league enthusiast, Peter Dudley, takes a look at the weekend’s ESL action

Clapton v Waltham Forest

The Tons come into this one bang in form and off the back of that marvellous win against Barking last weekend. The visitors, however, are one of the worst form sides in the division right now and lost the Walthamstow derby in midweek so won’t be relishing their trip to Forest Gate. Can only see a home win here

Pete’s Prediction 3-0

Enfield 1893 v Barkingside

Both these sides are in the lower half of the form table, in fact, the hosts are the only side in the division not to have won in their last six games. However, at home, they are more of a threat and will no doubt test a Barkingside outfit who lost at home to Sawbridgeworth Town last weekend. I do expect the visitors to take the points, though.

Pete’s Prediction 1-3

Haringey & Waltham v Stansted

Hosts Haringey are currently on a three-game losing streak and come up against a decent Stansted outfit who won 3-0 at Hullbridge Sports last weekend. The hosts have also conceded 19 goals in those three defeats so the visitors will look to fill their boots so to speak and I feel will come away with a comfortable win.

Pete’s Prediction 0-4

Hullbridge Sports v Barking

Sports have had a rather mixed last few games but did net seven in their last game against a poor Tower Hamlets side however they welcome league leaders Barking to Lower Road with the visitors having bounced back from last weekend’s loss to defeat Sporting Bengal United in midweek although it was far from convincing despite the 3-0 scoreline. I do feel however that the visitors will grab an important three points.

Pete’s Prediction 0-2

Ilford v London Bari

The Foxes will feel good about life after their midweek trouncing of Haringey at Cricklefield as they climbed into the top half for the first time this season. Bari have lost four of their last six, including back to back defeats in their last two games, so arrive here not in the best shape. I, therefore, see Ilford taking another three points here.

Pete’s Prediction 3-1

Redbridge v Basildon United

These two have been in similar form recently which is mixed at best so calling this one at Oakside will prove a tough one. The Motormen did win their last game 5-1 in the league although then shipped six to Sawbridgeworth in midweek. The Bees have lost four of their last six as their season as taken a slide but they do have Nathan Dewberry back fit again so that could give them a boost. Going for a score draw here, though.

Pete’s Prediction 2-2

Sawbridgeworth Town v Sporting Bengal United

The Robins could go as high as fifth with a win against Sporting Bengal United, outlining their recent terrific form which has seen them become one of the most in from sides recently. They take on a Sporting side who have failed to win in their last four games, drawing only one of those, as their good start to the year evaporated. However, they will make it tough for the hosts but I feel the home side will still prevail.

Pete’ Prediction 2-0

Tower Hamlets v Burnham Ramblers

This is a massive game down at the foot of the table and the first of a double-header between these two as they also meet in the reverse league fixture on Tuesday. The sides have only managed two wins between them (one each) in their last six outings and with only five points separating themselves a result, either way, will certainly change the outlook in it. I feel the hosts will squeeze a much-needed win, though.

Pete’s Prediction 3-2

Wadham Lodge v Eton Manor

Lodge have been a much more solid outfit of late and one defeat in six shows just that, and with their derby win over Waltham Forest in the bag they will come into this one in good shape. Manor were three unbeaten until Southend Manor beat them last weekend but Lodge will find it tough against them no doubt. Thinking this one may end all square.

Pete’s Prediction 1-1

West Essex v Southend Manor

This proves to be one of the games of the day as two of the in-form sides clash at Mayesbrook Park. The hosts are unbeaten in five which includes four wins whilst visitors Manor have won four of their last five so this proves very hard to call. I have a feeling though that the hosts might just grab the points in this one.

Pete’s Prediction 2-1

And quickly here are this weekend’s Reserves Division matchups:-

AFC Sudbury v Bishop’s Stortford

Barkingside v Hullbridge Sports

Redbridge v Takeley

Stansted v Waltham Abbey
