Man dead after lorry crashes off bridge and lands on A12 - 'Major disruption' expected until 'at least lunchtime'

By YA Reporter in Emergency Services

A MAN has died following a collision on the A12 near Witham yesterday.

The man, in his 30s, was driving a HGV which ’came off Coleman’s Bridge and landed on the southbound side of the A12, where it then caught fire’, said Essex Police.

He was pronounced dead shortly after the collision, which occurred just before 3.45pm, and his next of kin has been informed.

The lorry is being recovered from the road this morning, said Essex Police, meaning ’major disruption’ on the road is expected to continue today.

The southbound A12 will remain closed until at least lunchtime between Junctions 25 and 20B.

An Essex Police spokesman said: “Officers are investigating the circumstances leading up to the collision and would appeal for anyone who saw what may have happened, who has not already contacted police, to get in touch.”

Anyone with information was asked to call the Serious Collision Investigation Unit on 101, or email collisionappeal@essex.pnn.police.uk.
