SOUTHEND United trio, Anton Ferdinand, Michael Timlin and Ben Coker spoke about the incredible team spirit that has galvanised the Blues during their push towards the Sky Bet League One play-off places.
Speaking ahead of the Blues huge trip to Millwall, former West Ham United defender, Ferdinand, said: “Any squad that is successful has to have a team spirit. As you can see, we are enjoying ourselves on and off the pitch as a whole. Long may it continue. We are footballers, we have got a job to do on the pitch, we are doing it together and enjoying every minute of it.
“We want the best for the club, all of us. And the best thing for this club is to move forward with the minimum aim the play-offs. When we get into the play-offs, we’ll see what we can do from there.”
Tenacious midfielder and Millwall fan, Timlin, added: “We are just happy that we have come through the period people were questioning us about. Everyone thought that if e could come through this we would be there or thereabouts. We would like to think that we are there now, although we’ve still got a lot to do and work hard on, but I feel that we are going in the right direction.”
Undoubtedly, Ben Coker’s return to fitness has come as a huge boost to Phil Brown’s side, and the one-time Colchester United defender echoed the thoughts of his teammates: “It’s right up there at the minute, he said. “I’ve been here for a few years now and this feels like the second season when we went up. Everyone is going on about how together we are and I think that’s massive. Everyone is full of confidence and right up for every game that comes along.”
