TWO WOMEN have appeared at Basildon Magistrates Court this morning, charged in connection with the death of a man in Pitsea.

Keani Hobbs, 18, of Stagden Cross, Basildon, is charged with the manslaughter of Vilson Meshi.

The body of Mr Meshi, 30, was found in the back of his fire-damaged grey Audi in Pincey Mead on February 27 last year.

Hobbs is also charged with arson, the theft of six flares last February, and the theft of Mr Meshi’s iPhone and car keys.

Melanie Hobbs, 37, also of Stagden Cross, Basildon, appeared in the dock alongside her, charged with assisting an offender.

The charge alleges that she ’disposed of clothing belonging to suspects’ and other items – ’namely a mobile phone and set of car keys belonging to the victim Vilson Meshi’ – ’with intent to impede the apprehension or prosecution of suspects’.

Neither woman entered a plea, but defence solicitor Richard Keogh told the court they would plead not guilty when they appeared next month at Chelmsford Crown Court.

A third defendant – a 15-year-old boy from south east London – is due to appear at Basildon Magistrates Court next week.

He cannot be named because the court considers him a minor, but will appear in the adult court as he is charged alongside an adult co-defendant.

He is charged with the theft of marine flares, the manslaughter of Vilson Meshi, arson and the theft of Mr Meshi’s iphone and car keys.
