SOUTHEND United manager, Phil Brown, was satisfied with the way his side bounced back after a disappointing defeat at Millwall a week ago.
Blues recovered from that particular setback at the Den with a 2-0 success at Oxford United. Speaking ahead of this weekend’s huge Sky Bet League One clash with Northampton Town, Brown said: “I suppose you could say that it was an important win. But a win’s a win at the end of the day. The most important thing is that it was coming off a 1-0 defeat, and the manner of the defeat at Millwall, it showed how much we were hurting on Saturday. It also showed how much the player currently care about the situation if the truth be known.
“We’ve got to focus our attention on winning games of football. Where that takes us long term is hopefully what we planned out at the start of the season.
“Come Saturday it will be a tough game. Justin Edinburgh is in town for the third time this season, albeit with a different side. I think that having looked at Northampton a couple of times, he is playing a diamond formation, he’s playing trying to get it up to the front men early, but lay from there.
“They have got threats and we’ve got to be aware of those threats. But the confidence we are showing at the moment and certainly the belief from Tuesday night’s victory. Back-to-back victories would put us in a great position.”
