Fundraising page generates thousands of pounds for charity after being created to 'raise' money for columnist Katie Hopkins

A FUNDRAISING page has generated more than £14,000 for charity after it was jokingly created to ’raise’ money for columnist Katie Hopkins, who lost a libel case last week.

Spoof news website Southend News Network set up a JustGiving page after Mr Justice Warby ruled on Friday that Ms Hopkins must pay food blogger and writer Jack Monroe £24,000 in damages for two tweets she posted about her in May 2015.

The fundraising page, which has set a target of £324,000, is titled ’Help raise enough money for Katie Hopkins’ legal fees and libel damages’.

But in truth, all money raised will actually go to charity The Trussell Trust, which runs a network of foodbanks across the UK.
