Six weeks of overnight roadworks start tonight at Basildon's Southernhay / Great Oaks junction

TWO ROADS in Basildon are set to be partially closed overnight for two weeks next month, as part of a six week project set to begin this evening.

Great Oaks and Southernhay will be closed at night for roughly two weeks, starting on April 10.

The closures are part of a six-week project to renew traffic lights at the junction of the two roads, close to Staples, and repair underground cables.

The project is set to begin today, March 20.

The majority of the work will be conducted overnight, from 8pm until 5am, Essex Council said.

There will be works during the day, but none which require the carriageway to be restricted.

There is no weekend work planned but it could become necessary, County Hall added.

A letter sent to nearby residents and businesses added: “Unfortunately, some of the works will create noise and we apologise in advance for the disturbance caused. We will ensure as far as possible that work causing the most noise disturbance will cease at 11pm.”
