BASILDON TOWN spectacularly clinched the ProKit UK Essex Olympian League Division One title with an emphatic 8-2 victory over Newbury Forest at the Basildon Sports & Social Club Ground.

Marcus Bowers led the rout, hitting five of the goals, while Jack Main, Chris Charlery and Ben Smith were also on target as Town swept to the Championship in some style. Speaking to Yellow Sport after the match, Town manager, Marc Harrison said: "To be crowned champions with three games to go is something I am extremely proud of.

“We took on a mixture of Mid-Essex League players who have got themselves fit, organised and quickly gained an understanding of what was expected of them. They really are a credit to themselves and Basildon Town Football Club.

Harrison was quick to praise his management team for the club’s success, adding: “I’m lucky to have Liam Wallace, Andy Cumming and Tony Bowers as support. The team have bought into Wallace’s style, that has been key to our success.

“Bob Moorcroft, Dave Lovell and Nickie Murray have also supported everything we have wanted to do and we ate all extremely grateful for their help.”
