Essex Police names Wickford gunshot victim as 45-year-old Hugh Doherty

POLICE have named a man who died after being shot in the chest in Wickford.

Hugh Doherty, 45, of Cranfield Park Avenue, was found injured in his street at roughly 9.45pm on Sunday, April 16.

His sister – who police have not named – was found at the same time having suffered multiple stab wounds.

Both were hospitalised. Mr Doherty died but his sister remains in a ’serious but stable condition’.

Essex Police said it believed both had been injured in a ’targeted attack’.

An Essex Police spokesman said: "Enquiries are ongoing. Detectives are asking witnesses who have yet to come forward to contact Brentwood Major Investigation Team."

*A 27-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and a 25-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.

Both were arrested at around 4pm on Tuesday, April 18, on the A12. They remained in custody as the YA went to press.
