PUPILS at a Rayleigh school are aiming to bring a spot of Christmas cheer to some elderly residents.

The youngsters from FitzWimarc School are working with Rochford Council, Essex Age UK and Rayleigh Lions to repeat last year's successful 'winter warmer' scheme.

They are collecting goodies – like hot water bottles, gloces, socks, scarves, chocolate, hand cream and jam – to fill 100 bags.

A school spokeswoman said: “Residents will receive their bags via their home-helps, and we hope that the presents will make it a cheerier Christmas for them.”
