HUNDREDS of animals could face slaughter if a local animal sanctuary shuts.

More than 100,000 people have signed a petition to keep Hopefield Animal Sanctuary open.

The sanctuary looks after around 300 animals, many of whom were shaking and nervous when they were admitted to the sanctuary as they had been beaten or cruely treated.

But with Hopefield staffs' tender loving care, the animals, including a variety of breeds of dogs, cats, rabbits, cows, sheep, goats, horses and donkeys, have begun to trust humans once again. Hopefield bosses David and Lianne Schlaich run the site.
