RESIDENTS in Southend have a second chance to tackle snow and ice this winter by becoming a snow warden.

With forecasters warning of icy weather until the second week of February, Southend Council is offering free salt grit, a snow shovel and high visibility jacket if they pledge to become a snow warden.

The ice busting packs will be handed to people who turn up to the salt depot next to Stock Road Household Waste and Recycling Centre, with proof of address.

Councillor for public protection, waste and transport, Martin Terry, said so far it had been a mild winter so salt, grit and shovels may not be on people's minds.
