BASILDON'S Stuart Bingham is the new Betfred World Snooker Champion after beating Shaun Murphy by 18 frames to 15 at The Crucible in Sheffield on Monday.

It was only the second time that 38-year old Bingham had made it past round 2 in the competition while his opponent had won the title in 2005.

His family were on hand to join in the celebrations as he received the trophy and a cheque for £300,000.
