Borough spruces up to welcome Olympic Torch
Friday, 20 July 2012
VOLUNTEERS gathered in Cranbrook Road on Saturday for a clean up project ahead of the arrival of the Olympic Torch Relay this weekend.
Organised by Ilford Business Improvement District, the clean-up brought together the council, Global Cleaning Services and H&T Pawnbrokers plus help from local school, Cranbrook College, to ensure the road is spick and span for the big event.
Diane Norton, Ilford Town Centre co-ordinator, said: “We were amazed at the turn-out, because the weather was so wet.
“It was a lot of fun and we are very grateful to the businesses for sponsoring and attending, and putting so much effort into this community activity. They should all be very proud!”
Addy Archodakis, Ilford store manager at H&T Pawnbrokers, in Cranbook Road, said: “We are really committed to our community and want to make sure that Ilford looks its best in front of the world press.
“When the torch passes through Ilford we want all the community to feel proud about where we work and hope that this sense of pride extends beyond the summer and becomes an Olympic legacy.”
