HOCKLEY is the third most prosperous village in the UK when it comes to online businesses, according to Google.
The internet giant investigated how using the web as a marketing tool was impacting rural businesses and found that the Rochford village was one of the most successful online trading hotspots in the country.
To celebrate the result, Google visited the Hockley Parish Hall last Friday.
At the event, which featured an all-day juice bar, Google offered local businesses free one-on-one sessions, where they learned how to make the most of the internet.
Rayleigh and Wickford MP, Mark Francois, who has recently been visiting and learning about local businesses, attended the celebration.
He said: “I am thrilled that Hockley has been awarded as one of the top five fastest growing online business centres in Britain.
“I am proud to represent an area with such an entrepreneurial spirit. I hope this encourages other local businesses in the area to get online and grow their businesses.”
