A CRICKET coach from Brentwood has been recognised for outstanding services to grassroots cricket with a special award.

Martin Larrett, who currently acts as chairman of Bentley Cricket Club received the award from former England player coach David Lloyd at the npower Pakistan Test Match at the Brit Oval on August 19.

It was part of the Sky Sports ECB Coach Education Programme, where 100 coaches from across the country are being acknowledged by the programme’s ‘Reward and Recognition’.

The scheme comprises of a series of on-pitch presentations throughout the summer by various cricket legends.

Martin has more than 10 years of involvement in cricket and has just retired as Bentley’s U13’s coach before taking up the role of acting chairman.

Alongside his role as a school headmaster of St Anne Line Junior School, in Basildon, Martin has always found time to coach, and under his stewardship, Bentley has built up their Colts section to bring cricket to all age groups.

One young player to benefit from Martin’s coaching is Lee Gregory, who has gone from Essex U13 to U18, Academy and then second XI level.

Martin said: “It has been an absolute privilege to be here. thanks goes to Essex Cricket Board for the nomination. It is great to see the coaches getting recognition for the time put into grassroots cricket, and there are plenty more coaches where we came from.”
