Kickboxing Chloe is doing it for the girls

KICK IT: Chloe Wilson. Picture by Mark Cleveland
CHLOE Wilson is a pretty tough member of the weaker sex!
The 17-year-old Wickford student is the first female fighter at a Basildon martial arts academy – and won her first Full Contact Kickboxing fight.
According to Tony Willis, chief instructor at 5 Elements Martial Arts, kickboxing is a tough sport and not for the faint hearted.
“Our students have to train specifically to compete in full contact fights,” he said.
“Chloe is our first girl to take that route, and we are very proud of her.
“She dominated her fight in Kent last weekend, with her opponent taking punishment in the corner of the ring on several occasions.
“Full contact fighting is hard, and demands a very high level of fitness.
“Chloe has to have her parents’ consent before she fights, to meet national rules.”
The youngster is a pupil at Beauchamps School, and has been kickboxing for about two years.
“Another woman has recently joined Chloe in full contact classes, but has yet to fight,” Tony continued.
“Most of our female students just take simple fitness training – or kickercise – classes.”
Chloe and the new recruit are the only women training for full contact fighting, while the academy has 12 men on that course.
