Defeat leaves Grays without a win in six

GRAYS Athletic’s miserable start to the season in Blue Square Premier continued on Saturday.
The Blues suffered a 2-0 home defeat at the hands of Luton Town, which saw them drop a place to 22nd in the table and no win in six matches.
They struggled against a Luton side who took the lead through Tom Craddock six minutes before half-time.
Veteran striker Kevin Gallen doubled the Hatters lead five minutes after the break to secure a comfortable victory.
In Blue Square Premier, Chelmsford City went down 1-0 to Bath City.
Stuart Douglas gave the hosts a 32nd minute lead, but Bath had to play the final half-hour with ten men after Matt Coupe saw red.
But the Clarets could not find a way through for the equaliser and came back to Essex empty handed.
Thurrock’s match against Woking was postponed.
The weather affected fixtures in the Ryman League Premier with many called off.
However, action did take place at Canvey Island who were held to a 2-2 draw by Carshalton Athletic at the Brockwell Stadium.
Barry Stevens put the visitors ahead in the first half, but the Gulls fought back through second half goals from James Rowe and Leon Gordon.
Carshalton were not to be denied and managed to find an equaliser 12 minutes from time through Craig Faulconbridge.
AFC Hornchurch went down to a single goal at second place Hastings United - Russell Eldridge with the winner.
In Ryman League Division One North, Great Wakering Rovers took advantage of East Thurrock United’s postponement to move back to the top.
Neil Richmond bagged a hat-trick as Rovers beat Romford 3-1 with Paul Kavanagh scoring a consolation for Boro.
Maldon Town held second placed Thamesmead Town to a 3-3 draw.
Dan Rowell and Jack Jeffery gave Maldon a 2-0 lead inside the first 10 minutes, although Marcus Perona pulled one back for the visitors three minutes before the break.
Jeffery got his second and Maldon’s third, but Thamesmead fought back with Andy Constable bagging a double in the final 11 minutes.
A Kayan Kalipha double sealed a 2-0 win over Ilford, while Heybridge Swifts won 2-0 at Potters Bar Town - Reece Harris and Russell Malton on the scoresheet.
