A BOROUGH-wide campaign to bring troops back before Christmas was launched this week.

National Liberal Chairman, David Durant, was joined by banner waving councillors Jeff Tucker and Michael Deon Burton at the Rainham Clock Tower and War Memorial.

Mr Durant will be sending a petition, which states troops should return home because they are not well equipped enough to carry on fighting, to Prime Minister Gordon Brown.

Launching the Home before Christmas (HBC) petition, Mr Durant said: “It is clear our troops are not being properly equipped to fight this war and their lives should not be sacrificed to prop up a corrupt Government.

“It is National Liberal policy in principle not to intervene into other countries affairs, still less to see our brave soldiers suffer daily losses in an unwinnable and pointless war.”

Mr Deon Burton said: “Whether the troops should be in Afghanistan or not is a matter for question - their right for proper equipment is not a matter for question.”

Anyone who would be interested in gathering signatures for the campaign should contact Mr Durant on 07761 976219.
