FUNKY: Artist, Roy Amiss, with some of his latest work. Picture by Roy Tillett
A TALENTED local artist has been selected to exhibited his artwork in central London.
Roy Amiss featured in the YA four months ago as one of Havering’s top four artists to showcase work at the Visual Arts Centre gallery, based at Frances Bardsley School in Romford.
Roy has now produced some well-known and well-loved three dimensional pieces of actors, artists and pop icons.
The works - which include stars such as Clint Eastwood and Robert De Niro - can be seen at the Jonathan Ross Gallery in Earls Court until November 30.
Roy said: “It’s wonderful really. The South Kensington and Chelsea art magazine featured a whole page on me recently.”
Roy, from Rise Park, created the three-dimensional effect on his paintings by using metal mesh and nylon.
He added: “It is actually quite difficult to do the pictures real justice with photographs - so come along and see them.
“They are hand-painted holographs owing to their resemblance to the three-dimensional effects of laser holograms.”
Roy achieves this effect through scientific experiments, mathematics and traditional painting methods.
His work has also received the Royal seal of approval with the late Princess Margaret being a big fan.
Roy has exhibited internationally, and frequently exhibited at the Kunstrai Amsterdam Art Fair where he attracted the attention of the Dutch national press and Queen Beatrix of Holland.
His Tower of Babel installation was shown on Amsterdam TV and his work featured on the BBC. He has also appeared on local television in France.
Roy was a pupil at Rise Park Infant and Junior Schools, followed by Chase Cross School.
He studied Science at Barking College and Fine Art at Gloucester University.
