GPs across the borough have been inundated with requests from locals wanting the Swine Flu jab.
Doctors have been contacting patients and offering the jab to those who are classed as vulnerable – young children, those over 65 and people with conditions that could be affected by Swine Flu.
It is part of the national rollout of the vaccine to the vulnerable, which has also seen health staff immunised.
NHS Waltham Forest said it had been overwhelmed with requests from patients, but stressed the borough has enough supplies to immunise all that are at risk.
Dr Ken Aswani, chair of NHS Waltham Forest’s Professional Executive Committee, is pleased with the reaction.
He said: “In response to the first batch of vaccine we have had full appointments.
“It’s been a good steady start and we would like this to continue once we are in receipt of further vaccine supplies for those that are not on the priority register.”
Dr Aswani, who had his vaccination last week, is encouraging those who have not booked an appointment to do so.
He said: “It’s vitally important that the ‘at risk’ population do attend for their Swine Flu vaccinations.”
Up to 200 frontline social services staff have already been vaccinated as part of a plan to protect patients.
