It’s that time of year again… Love is in the air and hopefully so too is the smell of some delicious, romantic restaurant food at your table for two this Valentine’s Day (you didn’t forget to book did you!?)

They say that the way to a person’s heart is through their belly, and people all over Essex will be taking the ‘trouble’ out and testing that theory this week.

“But where are they going!?” we hear you scream desperately, through your screen and into the actual internet itself…

“Where can I take my little love-muffin to make them feel proper appreciated!?”

It’s a valid concern and we’ve got your back! So let’s have a look at the 10 best romantic restaurants in Essex according to TripAdvisor.

Unless stated otherwise, these places are all wheelchair accessible and provide vegetarian, vegan and gluten free options.

10. La Bicicletta, Brentwood Italian/Medditeranean

A family-run Italian restaurant where there’s no menu – the chef will cook whatever you want! There’s free off-street parking and a full bar.

9. The Cuckoo, Chelmsford European/British
A rustic, country style gastropub restaurant with a wood-burning stove to give it that homely feel and keep you toasty. Well behaved children are allowed, but there’s no children’s menu or facilities so you might get a child-free evening!

8. Plush Restaurant, Wickford Medditeranean/Turkish
Medditeranean style cuisine using fresh, locally sourced ingredients.

7. La Pizzeria, Westcliff-on-SeaItalian/Sicilian
A small, family-run, traditional Sicilian restaurant serving Sicilian/Southern Italian cuisine with fresh local ingredients. Award winning pizza and homemade desserts. La Pizzeria was awarded the TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence three years running from 2013 to 2015.

6. The Windmill, Chatham Green, Chelmsford Bar/European

A stylish, country style pub restaurant with a Michelin award winning chef, serving simple, seasonal dishes with local ingredients. Accommodation is available for your romantic getaway and the charming building has retained much of its original 19th Century timbers and brickwork, from when it was actually used to grind wheat and provide bread for the village.
5. Il Pescatore Restaurant, Southend-on-SeaItalian/Pizza

A family-run, Sicilian/Italian restaurant with a warm and welcoming atmosphere, as featured in the Essex Food Guide, Good Food Magazine and the UK Restaurant Guide. One of the first authentic Italian restaurants in Soutend-on-Sea.

4. Dante’s, Maldon Seafood/European

A modern fresh fish and seafood restaurant in a 16th Century former pub setting. The ever-changing, seasonal menu uses fresh, locally sourced produce from artisanal suppliers.

3. Rubino Kitchen, Maldon European/British

Situated at Chigborough Farm, where you’ll also find a tea-room, farm shop, a campsite and a lake.

2. Haywards Restaurant, Epping European/British

An air-conditioned restaurant in what was originally a coach house and skittle alley, with the building retaining many original features. It’s in the grounds of the Forest Gate Inn, a 17th Century free house where you might like to go for a drink after dinner. Accommodation with en-suite rooms is also available at the adjacent Gate House bed & breakfast.

1. Vita Bella, Chelmsford Italian/Medditeranean
An authentic Italian restaurant with a warm and welcoming atmosphere, using fresh, locally sourced ingredients. There’s a dress code specifying smart/casual attire and children are not allowed on Friday or Saturday evenings, so your night off from the kids doesn’t have to turn into a night with someone else’s! Vita Bella has been awarded the TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence four years running from 2015 to 2018. The special Valentine’s Day menu features king prawns, lobster and wild venison fillet. And the team are happy to oblige with requests such as flowers and special bouquets (minimum £50).
