Ali satisfied with Old Boys start

Old Southendian 1-1 Southend Manor

Incoming Old Southendian manager, Altan Ali was able to get a first-hand look at a sizable percentage of his squad during their well-contested 1-1 draw with Essex Senior League Southend Manor at Garon Park.

“It was a promising start and great to get some minutes in the tank,” Ali told Yellow Sport.

The Old Boys squad consisted of players from Essex Olympian League first and second teams, with several trialists also involved, keen to impress the new boss.

Connor Burrows and Ed Gould went close for the homes side, while a number of half-time changes initially disrupted the rhythm, allowing Manor to take advantage through Joseph Elliott’s well-placed glancing header.

But the Old Boys hit back. Will Harris heading back across goal, and high into the top corner of the net. Both sides hit the woodwork and will believe they could have edged the contest. Nevertheless, a good workout as the pair continue their preparations ahead of the new campaign.
