Aston Villa v Tottenham Hotspur – Villa Park – Premier League – Sunday 2pm
Aston Villa v Tottenham Hotspur – Preview:
Jose Mourinho spoke positively over the fitness of a number of his Spurs squad ahead of a busy week of Premier and Champions League football.
Spurs head to relegation-haunted Aston Villa on Sunday, then face bitter London rivals, Chelsea, in the Premier League, while sandwiched in between the Lilywhites take on RB Leipzig in the first-leg of their Champion League round of sixteen tie.
Ben Davies is in full training following a lengthy spell out with ankle ligament issues, while Steven Bergwijn and Giovani Lo Celso are looking to get up to speed. But Mourinho delivered good news at his pre-Villa press conference.
“No more limitation for Bergwijn, Ben is back,” the Spurs chief enthused.
“Giovani is ready to play.”
The Portuguese boss still had issues surrounding Erik Lamela and Juan Foyth, while Moussa Sissoko and Harry Kane continue their rehabilitation.
“Lamela we have to assess but if not for Sunday then Wednesday,” Mourinho added.
“Juan out still a little bit and Sissoko and Harry apart from that we’re getting better.”
Spurs are looking to build on back-to-back Premier League victories as they continue their quest for the top four. Meanwhile, Villa needs the points for vastly different reasons. Dean Smith’s men are a point and a place above the dropzone after winning one of their last four Premier League outings.
