West Ham United 1-3 Liverpool – Reaction
There were no complaints from David Moyes following West Ham United’s defeat to Premier League champions Liverpool.
The Hammers competed well and defended stoutly for the best part of an hour before a Mohamed Salah double and one from Georginio Wijnaldum saw the Red pull away.
Craig Dawson ensured the hosts had the final say, but Moyes offered a=n honest assessment of both the game as a whole and where his side are in terms of progression.
“I thought we competed as well as we could, I didn’t think we played as well as we could, but we tried to compete with a really good team, who were just too strong for us today,” the Scotsman confessed.
“Liverpool are not the sort of teams we are challenging, we want to challenge them in individual games but their consistency across the season will be much greater as we have seen over recent years. They played much better than us today so we have got no complaints.”
Perhaps the step-up in class led to a little trepidation in the Hammers play: “It was one of the biggest disappointments that we gave the ball away and we didn’t get it down and play,” Moyes added.
“Some key players needed to do that better who didn’t do it in the moments when we had it, so that is one of the aspects which I don’t think we did as well.”
