Ange thrilled with Tottenham’s toil

Tottenham Hotspur v Newcastle United – Premier League – Tottenham Hotspur Stadium – Reaction

Tottenham Hotspur 4-1 Newcastle United

When they’re good, they’re good. And there was little doubt that after a troublesome spell, Tottenham Hotspur hit the heights as Newcastle United were swept aside in a somewhat one-sided Premier League clash in N17.

Destiny Udogie and Richarlison profited from Heung-min Son’s clever play to put Spurs in the driving seat. Richarlison added his second and the hosts third before Son rolled in a fourth from the spot. Even a late Joelinton strike from the Magpies couldn’t spoil the mood, either of the crowd or the manager: “I thought we were better in that area. I thought Sonny really set the tone for us early on,” Postecoglou said.

“Whenever he got the ball he was really positive with it. That’s what you need from leadership and I think the rest of the lads fed off that and we were a lot more threatening in that front third than we have been.

“I thought we got the goals we deserved and could have had a couple more at least. So yeah really pleased with that aspect.”

Brazilian frontman Richalison provided arguably his best performance in what has been a stop-start career with Spurs: “Richy was great. Really important,” Postecoglou enthused.

“I thought him and Pape coming in gave us some real energy. We were going to need it today with the midweek fixture and I thought they did that.

“Their general play was excellent but just their general energy was very good and obviously, for Richy, getting a couple of goals as a striker, that was positive for him.”
