A children’s home has been given the go ahead in Westcliff.
Planning officers approved an application to turn a semi-detached house at 239 Westborough Road into a home for three children aged between 12 and 18.
It follows approval for a home in Crowstone Road, Westcliff for six children. An application for another home for six children in Pembury Road was withdrawn after prior approval was refused by officers.
The latest home will be registered with Ofsted and run by Ancora Children’s Homes, a subsidiary of Family Works Fostering. Two adults will be based at the home during the day and one at night.
The children living in the home will be from Southend as Ancora Child said they aim to place children within the local community the children come from so that they are not separated from a familiar environment.
A resident objection cited fears of increased levels of antisocial behaviour and a limited space for children outside the property.
The home includes a staff office and a lounge and meeting room at the front of the property. A living room leads to a small rear garden.
Visitors to the proposed children’s home will consist only of other social workers, who will visit no more than twice a month. No visitors will stay overnight.
