Armitage signs new Saxons deal

SOUTHEND SAXONS have been provided with a huge boost with the news that Joel Armitage has put pen to paper on a new deal at Warners Bridge.

Armitage – who claimed both the Saxons Player’s Player and Player of the Year awards early this month – will remain with the London One North outfit for the foreseeable future, having just completed his second term at the club.

“The 25-year-old was pleased to get the new contacts sorted, explaining: “I’m really happy to be re-signing for Southend.

“I’ve really enjoyed my time here so far and I’m excited to spend the upcoming seasons with a great group of people at this club.

“Hopefully, we can build on what we’ve been doing over the last couple of years and take the club back where it belongs.”

Director of Rugby, Josh Ward, has worked tirelessly to ensure the Saxons are in a position to challenge once rugby resumes and he was delighted to get the deal over the line: “I’m delighted – securing Joel for the next three seasons is brilliant news,” he told Yellow Sport.

“Joel’s performance levels over the past year have been outstanding. His condition has also improved dramatically which is testament to his hard work.

“Securing not only coaches player of the season but also being voted by his peers as player’s player of the season, speaks volumes of how important he is to our group. He’s a crowd favourite and someone who is going to play a pivotal role for us going forward.”
