A man has been arrested on suspicion of the cultivation of cannabis after officers searched a car wash on Canvey Island.
Police carried out a warrant under the Misuse of Drugs Act at 7.20am this morning, Tuesday November 30, and discovered more than 70 cannabis plants growing in controlled conditions.
The three rooms where the plants were kept were only accessible through a hole in the wall from the room where the suspect was eating and sleeping.
PC Stuart Sheridan, who led the operation, said: “The car wash was situated within a boatyard and thanks to intelligence from members of the public we were able to get a warrant, which we executed.
“When we entered the car wash, a gentleman came and opened the door who was an Albanian national. He’s been arrested for the cultivation of cannabis.
“It’s a blow to criminality on Canvey Island and it’s taking a bit more cannabis off the street.”
The sale of drugs is inextricably linked with violent crime and the proceeds help fund more criminal activity.
