Arrest following alleged assault in Southend

Police are appealing for information following an alleged assault in Southend this afternoon.

It was reported a man had been attacked at the junction of Victoria Avenue and Queensway shortly before 3.20pm today.

Officers attended and found a man with a single stab wound to his abdomen.

He has been taken to hospital but his injury is not thought to be life-threatening.

A 55 year-old man was arrested a short time later on suspicion of GBH with intent and possession of a knife and he is currently in custody.

Police believe this is an isolated incident and there is no risk to the wider public.
