Arrests made within minutes of robbery in Leigh

Two people were arrested within five minutes of a robbery taking place in Leigh-on-Sea yesterday.

The alert was raised by an off-duty police officer shortly before 3pm yesterday, Friday July 2, to a robbery which had taken place at Byfords Food Hall, in Leigh.

The details of a vehicle used in the incident were passed to the units attending the scene.

Within five minutes of the report, officers from our Operational Support Group, who were in the area as part of an increased presence in Southend, had stopped a car on the A127 in Rayleigh.

A quantity of cash was recovered from the vehicle during a search.

A man, aged 42 from London, was arrested on suspicion of robbery.

A woman, aged 31, also from London, was arrested on suspicion of theft.
