Arteta quick to credit his players for a change in fortunes

Aston Villa v Arsenal – Villa Park – Premier League – Tuesday 8:15pm

Aston Villa v Arsenal – Preview

Mikel Arteta’s can be pretty satisfied with life at the moment. His Arsenal side has improved notably during the Premier League’s restart period, with recent victories over Liverpool and Manchester City – the latter booking the Gunners a place in the Emirates FA Cup final – suggests some of the issues previously sited at the Emirates Stadium were more to do with mentality and attitude than ability.

Indeed, the Spaniard is keen for his charges to take the credit but insisted that they continue to raise the bar as the campaign draws towards its conclusion.

Speaking ahead of Tuesday evening’s trip to relegation-threatened Aston Villa, Arteta explained: “All credit goes to the players for the way they’ve been performing and the way they’ve been believing in what we are trying to do.

“Obviously, this is a marathon, this is a long-term thing that has to be played and you have to do it consistently for ten months.

“It’s not good enough to just do it for a week so we haven’t done anything, just won two games that give us a big plus in the league and the sense that if we are all doing our best we can beat any team but now we have to be consistent and do it every three days.”

Arteta looks like being without Shkodran Mustafi due to a hamstring injury sustained during Sunday’s semi-final triumph at Wembley Stadium. Eddie Nketiah is available for selection after serving a three-match ban following his dismissal against Leicester City a fortnight ago.
