Arteta wary there’s some way to go for Gunners

Liverpool 3-1 Arsenal – Reaction

Mikel Arteta confessed his emerging Arsenal side are still a work in progress.

The Spaniard watched on as champions Liverpool came from an Alex Lacazette goal behind to secure a 3-1 success thanks to strikes from Sadio Mane, Andy Robertson and recent signing from Wolves, Diego Jota.

“We are in a different journey to Liverpool,” Arteta explained.

“They’ve been together for five years and they weren’t able to do what they’ve done tonight two or three years ago, that’s for sure.

“They have a lot of good work, a lot of belief in the way they play, great recruitment and they’ve improved the players that they have. This is what we have to try to do.

“They set the bar and they’re probably the best standard that the Premier League has seen in many years. This is where we have to get and obviously we’re still a long way from getting there.”

The Gunners will get an immediate opportunity for redemption when they again face Liverpool at Anfield on Thursday, October 1 in a Carabao Cup fourth-round tie (7:45pm).
