Assault in Westcliff leaves man in serious condition

Police are investigating an assault in Westcliff which has left a man with serious injuries.

It was reported he was approached by a man wearing a balaclava in Valkyrie Road at around shortly after midnight this morning (Saturday October 30).

The victim, who is in his 20s, was assaulted and has been taken to hospital in a life-threatening condition.

Detective Inspector Kev Hughes, who’s leading the investigation, said: “I know this incident is likely to cause concern to people in the local community but at this stage we believe it was a targeted attack.

“As such, we don’t believe there is a risk to the wider public.

“A team of detectives is currently working to establish the circumstances which led up to this assault and you are likely to see a police presence in the area for much of today.

“If you saw anything or have any CCTV, dashcam or doorbell footage, I need you to contact us.”
