MATTHEW AUSTIN’S 3/14 paved the way for Old Southendian & Southchuch to open their Cook Division campaign with a two-wicket victory over Stanford Le Hope at Garon Park.
Ahmed Khawaja and Kaden Threadgold chipped in with two apiece as the visitors were dismissed for 151 inside 38 overs. Michael Edwards finishing unbeaten on 35 for Stanford Le Hope.
The Old Boys made heavy weather of the chase. Wicketkeeper/batsman Josh Perry hit 33 off 56 deliveries. However, the host’s appeared in trouble at 90/6.
But Austin steadied the ship, scoring an unbeaten 37 off 43, to guide the Old Boys home with 15 deliveries to spare.
