South East Stars won by 77 runs

The Sunrisers slipped to a second-successive Rachel Heyhoe Flint Trophy defeat as a strong South East Stars side recorded a 77-run success at the Kent Cricket Ground, Beckenham.

Sophia Dunkley led the way for the home side, coming agonisingly close to an impressive century as the Stars posted a huge 289/8.

Dunkley reached 97 – a knock including twelve boundaries – before she was caught by Naomi Dattani off a delivery from Jo Gardner.

Alice Davidson-Richards hit 61, while Susie Rowe (39) and skipper Tash Farrant (37) also amongst the runs for the home side – Gardner and Katie Wolfe each taking two wickets for the Sunrisers.

Skipper, Amara Carr, almost single-handedly carried the fight for the Sunrisers, herself, desperately unlucky not to reach three figures, falling – stumped by wicketkeeper, Rhianna Southby, off Hannah Jones on 99.

Fran Wilson scored 29, while both Gardner and Kelly Castle scored 25, but the chase was always a tall order. Bryony Smith took 3/25 and there was two apiece for Jones and Dunkley as the Stars bounced back from a loss to Western Storm in their opening game.
