To coincide with national Domestic Abuse Week a new responding to domestic abuse policy has been launched by Basildon Council.
The policy strengthens the council’s position in supporting victims and their families at risk of, or experiencing domestic abuse, along with other abusive behaviours, and is compliant with the Domestic Abuse Act 2021.
The policy was approved by the Enforcement and Public Order Committee on October 26.
Chairman of the Committee, and leader of the council, Councillor Andrew Baggott said: “We will support victims wholeheartedly and ensure that those who choose not to recognise their abuse are dealt with to the full extent of the law.
“It is important that we also support those perpetrators who do recognise they are abusive and seek to change, and we will do this through working with our partners across Essex to address their behaviours.”
