Nottinghamshire lead Essex by 89 runs with six wickets standing

Essex were taken to task by the Nottinghamshire attack as the home side – inspired by right-arm medium-fast bowler, Luke Fletcher – dominated the opening day at Trent Bridge.

Fletcher took 6/24 as Essex were skittled for just 99. Nick Bowne top-scored with 53 off 112 balls, while Dan Lawrence, who scored 14, was the only other visiting batsman to reach double-figures.

Notts made short work of overtaking the visitors’ meagre tally. Haseeb Hameed hit 42, while Lyndon James and skipper, Steven Mullaney were still there at the close on 42* and 63* respectively. Shane Snater proved to be the shimmering light for Essex – the right-arm medium finishing an eventful day with 3/54. Play resumes on Friday at 11am.
