Old Southendian 1-1 Harold Wood Athletic
OLD SOUTHENDIAN maintained their ProKit UK Essex Olympian League Premier Division survival battle by moving up to eighth place following a hard-fought 1-1 draw with fellow strugglers, Harold Wood Athletic at Garon Park.
The Old Boys had to come from behind to salvage a share of the spoils. Foley profited after an unfortunate mix-up between goalkeeper Charlie Merrin and central defender, Connor Burrows to hand Athletic the lead midway through the opening period.
However, the home side displayed resolve and restored parity when Ryan Stillwell’s angled effort eluded everyone and sailed into the bottom corner of the rigging.
The Old Boys passed up late opportunities to claim all three points. However, coming off the back of last weekends hammering of Catholic United, the Seasiders position appears a whole lot more healthy.
Speaking to Yellow Sport after the match, Old Southendian boss, Connor Lane, explained: It was a tough game. Both teams grappled with the blustery conditions – it was a struggle.
“We felt as if it was us who had the better chances to win the game. But credit to the boys. We tried everything we could to win the game and we have moved further away from the relegation zone.”
