Liverpool v Tottenham Hotspur – Premier League – Anfield – Report
Liverpool 1-1 Tottenham Hotspur
Tottenham Hotspur battled in the face of a Liverpool storm to earn a share of the Premier League spoils at Anfield, setting them up for a must-win North London derby encounter with Arsenal on Thursday evening.
While the result on Merseyside has kept the Lilywhites in touch with the top four, it also put a serious dent into the Reds title charge as the campaign reaches an exciting conclusion.
Liverpool dominated the stats but found themselves chasing the game shortly before the hour when Harry Kane and Ryan Sessegnon combined to provide Heung-Min Son with the easiest of chances from five yards.
It was backs to the wall stuff from Tottenham, who defended deep and in numbers in a bid to stem the Liverpool tide. However, the home side eventually broke through. Diaz’s low drive took a sizable deflection, leaving Hugo Lloris wrong-footed as the ball spun agonisingly into the bottom corner of the net.
The result left the Lilywhites in fifth place, a point behind Arsenal ahead of the Gunners’ Sunday fixture with Leeds United.
Spurs return to Premier League action on Thursday, May 12 when Arsenal are the visitors to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium (8pm).
