Beach Boys create unusual Trophy trivia

Concord Rangers v Truro City – Buildbase FA Trophy Third Qualifying Round – Aspect Arena – Saturday 3pm – Preview

It has to be said, it’s an odd situation.

Concord Rangers, begin their 2020/21 Buildbase FA Trophy campaign, still waiting patiently for their Wembley showpiece with Harrogate Town having reached the final of last seasons competition.

Of course, having grappled with Slough Town, Maidstone United, Bath City, Leamington, Royston Town, Halesowen Town and most significantly, COVID-19, the opportunity for Beach Boys supporters to see their side at the Home of Football isn’t lost upon anyone. However, as they prepare to possibly defend a trophy they are yet to win, boss Danny Scopes admitted that the proverbial ‘hunter’ has become the ‘hunted’ as his side are now billed as a big fish in the Trophy pond.

“It certainly feels strange starting a new competition before we have ended the last one,” Scopes told Yellow Sport.

“The FA Trophy has given us some amazing moments last season. Getting to the final as a club – and in my first year back as manager – was a huge achievement by all involved.

“But having reached Wembley as underdogs, we will now be viewed as a scalp for someone. It is not going to be easy backing up what we did last season, but it is an important competition for the club and we will be aiming to do well again and win a few games for the fans.”
