CONCORD RANGERS have been handed a huge boost with the news that goalkeeper Chris Haigh and defensive midfielder Billy Roast have put pen to paper on new deals at the Aspect Arena.

The pair have been a huge part of Danny Scopes’ Vanarama National League South outfit.

Haigh arrived following a successful period at Heybridge Swifts. The popular stopper also represented Merstham, Maldon & Tiptree, East Grinstead and Barnet.

Scopes was clearly delighted to get the deal over the line, telling Yellow Sport: “We signed Chris from Heybridge last year and were rewarded with his performance and development as a player last season.

“We gave him the chance and he took it with both hands and was pivotal in the success we had last season

“He is still young and has plenty to work on. We are pleased he is staying with us and trusts us, as we do him, to help him develop.”

Meanwhile, Roast started his career at Colchester United before initially linking up with the Beach Boys during the 2017/18 campaign. Spells at Dartford and a loan with Maldon & Tiptree followed before the player returned to the Canvey-based club in the summer of 2019.

On ensuring the players’ future, boss, Scopes added: “I’m pleased to finally get Billy confirmed for next year and I look forward to working with him again.

“Billy develop into a midfield position and offers us good protection. He is close to 100 senior games for the club which is a great achievement for a favourite with the fans.

“He’s a great lad and is developing into an experienced footballer at this level.”
