Beach Boys set an unusual trivia poser

Buildbase FA Trophy

Concord Rangers have set an unusual footballing trivia question by being knocked out of a competition they could still yet win before the end of the season.

Due to the pandemic, the Beach Boys are still waiting for their 2020 Wembley Buildbase FA Trophy Final with Harrogate Town to go-ahead. However, a 2-1 third qualifying round reverse at the hands of Truro City at the Aspect Arena ensured the Canvey-based club will not be able to defend the trophy, should they be successful when their showpiece date with the Sulphurites is eventually pencilled in.

Confused? No more so than the Concord rearguard after two second-half goals within ten minutes from Tyler Harvey and Alex Battle handed the West Countrymen a 2-0 advantage. Sam Blackman pulled one back, but it was a case of too little too late for Danny Scopes’ side.

Better new for Dagenham & Redbridge who made FA Trophy first round progress with a thumping 5-2 victory over National South side, Ebbsfleet United at the Chigwell Construction Stadium.

Paul McCallum, Angelo Balanta, Callum Reynolds and a brace from Darren McQueen ensured the East Londoners progress – Lee martin and Rakish Bingham giving the scoreline a little more respectability for the Kent visitors.

Hornchurch are in he hat following a superb 2-1 victory at National South Dulwich Hamlet.

Sanchez Ming gave the home side an early lead from the penalty spot. However, the Urchins turned the tie on its head thanks to strikes from Sam Higgins, midway through the first half, and Charlie Ruff, four minutes from time, saw the Bridge Avenue club through.

Haringey Borough will be joining them after Bobson Bawling grabbed a dramatic last-minute winner against Dartford at Princess Park.
