Beach welfare officers discover large vandalised palm tree plant in Westcliff

A routine patrol for Chalkwell Lifeguards Beach Welfare Officers turned into an attempted recovery operation of a very large exotic palm tree plant that had been felled and left blocking a seafront cliffs pathway near the arches cafes in Westcliff.

The massive plant was far too heavy to fully recover, but the beach welfare officers did manage to partially clear the pathway and erect some safety barriers, reporting the damage to The Pier and Foreshore Department to bring in some heavy lifting equipment.

A Chalkwell Lifeguards Club spokesperson said: “its such a shame to see beautiful established exotic plants like these destroyed for absolutely no reason at all.”
