Beaten U’s facing a relegation scrap

Colchester United 1-2 Exeter City

Pressure ramped up on Colchester United boss, Steve Ball after the U’s winless Sky Bet League Two run was extended to thirteen matches as promotion-chasing Exeter City won by the odd goal in three at the JobSever Community Stadium.

Former Chelmsford City man, Robbie Willmott – on loan at Exeter from Newport County – handed the visitors the lead shortly before the half-hour mark, firing home right-footed from close range.

Colchester’s troubles deepened midway through the second period when Ben Seymour nodded home and although Noah Chilvers teed Aramide Oteh up to reduce the arrears two minutes later, the home side was unable to salvage the contest.

With both Grimsby Town and Barrow winning, Colchester now finds themselves nine points above the relegation zone. The U’s return to Sky Bet League Two action on Saturday, February 27 when they take on Forest Green Rovers at the New Lawn (5:30pm).
