Benfleet overcame the loss of early wickets and an Ahmed Khawaja century to earn a share of the Division Two spoils against Old Southendian & Southchurch at the Peter Butler Oval.

Khawaja hit 130off 102 balls. His innings included sixteen 4s and four 6s. Wicketkeeper/batter, Matthew Darvill chipped in with 40 and Jamie Casson 32 as teh Old Boys posted a sizable 272/7. Gavin Blowes returned bowling figures of three for 64 for Benfleet, while Taylor Casson and Fayaz Khan Nasseri picked up two wickets apiece.

Bowles was also in decent form with the bat, hitting 70 from 52, as was Nasseri who scored 81 off 40. Ross Casson was another batter in good nick. He reached 44 before becoming one of Khwaja’s three victims. Former Essex man, Andy McGarry also claimed three wickets, but the visitors dug deep to bat out for a draw in the burning Southend sun.
