Bid to identify elderly victim of robbery at Southend cashpoint

Police are looking for the public’s help after a robbery in Southend this morning.

Officers were called to Southchurch Avenue, outside Tesco Express at around 10:50am on Sunday April 28 following reports of a man being robbed at a cashpoint.

Witnesses reported seeing an elderly victim pushed to the floor before having cash and a wallet stolen. The suspect then ran towards York Road.

The victim was assisted by members of the public. However, he left before officers arrived.

The victim is described as a white man in his 60s, of slim build and with grey hair. He was wearing glasses and a camo jacket.

Sergeant Stephen Wells from Southend Town Centre said “We need to identify the victim to make sure he is okay.”

The suspect is described as a white man in his early 30s, wearing a grey jeans and a black puffer coat with the hood up as well as black trainers. Officers are reviewing CCTV of the area to identify the suspect as well as the victim.
