BILLERICAY BLUE made it through to this weekends RPGTV Champion Hurdle final after finishing second by a short head in Sunday’s semi-final at Central Park.
Blue took a big bump on the first bend but recovered superbly before being pipped by Lenson Wilson on the line.
Blue – co-owned by Billy McMahon and Nick Hutt from Billericay Town FC – is currently priced at 7/1 to win the lucrative final. Speaking to Yellow Sport, former West Ham United goalkeeper, McMahon, said: “We are delighted to have made a Cat 1 final with the first dog we have owned together.
McMahon added: We must thank the Reynolds camp – Jim, Sue, Donna and all the kennel staff – for all the hard work that has gone into Blue reaching the final.
“A special mention goes to my partner, Donna. She has schooled this dog and said from the very start he was a natural over the hurdles and was correct in her evaluation of the dog’s ability.”
Meanwhile, Hutt said: “I think Blue is way overpriced for the final. I expect a big run from him. If he’s leading the inside dogs, he will go very close.”
