Billericay’s troubled start to the season continued as Colchester and East Essex won this battle of the early-season strugglers at Castle Park.

Charlie Fernandes led the way with a breathtaking 107 not out for the home side – His knock coming off 95 balls and including nine boundaries and two 6s.

Julian Russell chipped in with 44 as Colchester posted a competitive 246/6 –  Robert Rayner (2/42) and Adam Marchant (2/52) doing their utmost with the ball for Billericay.

Despite an unbeaten 97 from David Houghton, Billericay was to fall some way short. Aron Nijjar with 31 and Nathan Khelawon (10) the only other visiting batsmen to join Houghton in double figures. Oliver Hills (4/28) and Darren Eckford (3/39) doing the majority of the damage as Colchester won with some to spare
