Billericay eased to a 71-run Dukes Essex League Cup first-round victory over local rivals Wickford with Nathan Khelawon and Matthew Bell amongst the runs at the Patmore Memorial Sports Ground.

Having taken the ball, Wickford found Khelawon in sparking form, falling four short of his century – a knock which included fifteen boundaries and two 6s.

Bell unbeaten 85 was complemented further by 40 from Oliver Sarkar as the visitors’ posted 281/6 – Dean Etchells taking 2/47 for the home side.

Andy Smith turned the screw with 4/34, while there were two wickets apiece for Robert Rayner and Ross Poulton. Chris Whitworth scored 48 and Adam Deller refused to throw in the towel, hitting an unbeaten 57 off 58 deliveries, but Wickord were dismissed some way short of their target.
